or if I needed something soft under my head
I took a decisive move but as I approached
the uncertainty made my pulse race
and hung iron weights on my legs
And then from the opposite hill
I saw a light and the warmth of the family hearth
As her car drove away, I stood still
of my own free will, I ran down the hill
As far as the foot can go up
I walked mindlessly until my fear
replaced joy like hate replaces love.
And then I stood on your terrace
and stared through the shutters into an empty house
empty but fragrant and cozy
and dreadful because it belonged to your spouse
Why is it that every time I'm on the road
I never find you here and when you're here
you're not alone? Maybe it’s time to let it go
And so I stare at the shutters
I see nothing more but my disappointed face
Aged with waiting and hiding
True feelings for the man who’s got a different base
Suddenly I realised that I wasn't yours
And thankfully, I never have to be.
